Serei Senshi Spriggan (精霊戦士スプリガン, Spirit Warrior Spriggan) is a shoot 'em up game developed by Compile and published by Naxat Soft in 1991 for the PC Engine CD in Japan only. It was later ported to the Wii Virtual Console in 2008, and was also included in the list of games available for the PC Engine Mini (TurboGrafx-16 Mini in North America) in March 19, 2020, as its first international release.

The game was originally planned to be part of the Aleste series and developed under the title "Serei Senshi Aleste", but was changed to the current one at the behest of publisher Naxat, who wanted to start their own shoot 'em up series. It was the first game to be part of Naxat's Summer Carnival event, being followed by two sequels, Spriggan Mark Two and Spriggan Powered, both of which change the setting and gameplay. The game was also planned to be localized by Working Designs under the name Ghost Warrior Spriggan , but this version never materialized.

Jura, the world of magic and spirits.

Since the emergence of one king, the Buraizubara Empire has begun to invade other countries one after another. The spirit nation of Shisuferu, who stood up to stop his ambition, ordered the armies of the Spirit Armed Forces unit to launch an assault.

The Spirit Armor is an armored warrior that uses and activates the elemental power of it's passengers. Among such powerful armored units, the strongest and most legendary warrior is the Spriggan. Pilots Jega and Rikato board the Spriggan and set off into battle.

Seirei Senshi Spriggan is a vertically scrolling shooter, with the player's ship being powered by colored orbs. By destroying balloons and vaults strewn around the stages, these orbs will be released and can be picked up and stocked by the player for up to three at a time. Orbs come in four different colors, each representing an element, and the Spriggan's shots will change depending on which color combination the player has stocked.

Other than changing the current shots, stocked orbs can also be consumed to cause a powerful screen clearing explosion. Since orbs are very plentiful, bombing during stages is encouraged.
