Power Strike II is a top-down vertical shoot 'em up video game developed by Compile. It was published by SEGA in 1993, only released in Europe. It wasn't released in the US, nor was it released in Japan, unlike most Aleste games. This is the last official game in the series developed by Compile, and the last overall entry until the series revival in 2019.

This game moves from the setting of previous games to a steampunk version of the 1930's, where you control the Flying Falcon and fight against sky pirates.

Story

In a mountain on the Mediterranean coast, a young man lies on the grass. He observes the red and gold dawn sky that opens over the sea. A light breeze shakes the olives. A motor sound breaks the silence. He soon notices a second motor noise, from a larger vehicle.

Two airplanes show up in the horizon. A freighter, followed by a small turboprop. The man picks his binoculars and tries to identify them. The freighter is a common B-17 that is no match to the pilot on his tail. The turboprop divebombs the freighter, with the sun on it's back, and opens fire with it's high caliber guns. The left wing is severely damaged. Another curtain fire and the freighter ship explodes.

The young man runs to a small hangar on the side of the mountain. He already saw this turboprop before, two years ago, when he was co-pilot on a commercial ship. This same sky pirate destroyed his ship to steal the cargo. He was lucky: he survived, after months in the hospital. Now, it is time to stop these pirates! He decides to fight and eliminate these villains once and for all. The sky is free - no one shall use it for evil again.

Gameplay

Power Strike II plays similarly to previous Aleste games. Like in Aleste 2, you can pick your starting secondary weapon. By holding the fire button the Flying Falcon will fire both the main and secondary weapons, all while charging energy which can be unleashed by releasing the button. Support ships will bring up P icons to strenghten the main weapon, numbered icons to equip the different secondary weapons, as well as colored crystals which act as a shield, rotating around the ship and giving different power boosts depending on their color.
